Planning to visit Jaffna during your stay in Sri Lanka? Would recommend a train ride as you can experience a breathtaking sceneric view on your way there, and you won’t feel a bit tired if you do so, won’t feel bored of your trip too. If you catch the early train from Colombo you can reach Jaffna approximately 7hrs.

Even though the majority of race is Hinduism, you could still find a couple of Buddhist temples, like Nagadeepa Buddhist Temple, Dambukola Patuna Sangamitta Temple which was built to remember the landing of Theri Sangamitta with a sapling of Bo, and you will find a number of Stupa remains of you visit Chunnakam the ancient Kandurugoda Viharaya.

Since the majority of people are Hindus the Northern part of Sri Lanka has a vast number of Hindu temples as people come and worship their gods, to pray and offer their goods.

During your stay in Jaffna you can visit the most famous place in Jaffna, Jaffna Fort. It was originally built in the 15th century by the Portuguese Colonialists. It was later taken over by the Dutch and followed by the British.

If you visit Sri Lanka during the month of August, you will be able to experience Jaffna Nallur festival which is known as one of the biggest festivals in Jaffna conducted by the Hindus.

Next to the sea West of Palaly is a natural spring which is called Keerimale ( Keerimalai ) Keerimalai is a bathing tank which is built surrounding this pool and the walls of this natural spring pool separates the waters of the spring and the sea. Even though Keerimalai is very close to the sea, the fresh water come from an underground freshwater spring in Tellipalai – Moviddapuram.

Gurunagar is a beautiful place with scenic sunset view. You can see a huge number of fishing boats floating with busy fishermen.

Port Jambukola or Damnukola Patina is situated in Jaffna which is known as an ancient Port in Sri Lanka. According to history records it says that Jambukola Patuna harbour is where Sangamitta Theri arrived with the sacred Bo- Tree sapling. This is located near a beautiful village of Madagal towards the coastal area of Jaffna.

Neduntheevu which is more famous by the name Delft Island is also in the North Sri Lanka. It is rated as one of the top 10 places you you should visit. The weather around here is approximately 26•C – 30•C, and this beautiful island is 8km maximum length, and had a population around 5000. Neduntheevu as also known as Delft island is very famous among locals and foreigners for the extraordinary population of wild horses. Since Delft is an island, anyone can reach the island by a daily ferry which is leaves Kurikkaduwan Jetty.

For a one-day trip out an ideal place in North Sri Lanka is Nainativu island. The reason for us to say that is Nainativu Nagapooshani Amman Temple which is worshiped by the Hindus, is situated in this small but notable island.
